This module outlines the basic requirements of a cargo securement system and explains each of the elements that make up an effective securement system. It also discusssses how direct and indirect tiedowns are used in a cargo securement system, along with how to calculate working load limit and aggregate working load limit. After completion, participants will be able to:

Provide examples of how to correctly use a front-end structure
Provide examples of how to secure cargo without a front-end structure
Describe how to restrain round articles
Explain the best angles to use with both indirect and direct tiedowns
Describe how to position tiedowns to get better angles
List the minimum number of tiedowns to use with blocked and unblocked articles of different lengths
Determine the aggregate working load limit required for a load and whether there are enough securement devices to be compliant
